09.21.07 Dover, De - Small Town, Big Crime
It's every child and parent's dream to be accepted to the college or university of choice. We go on to believe our safety is not at risk. This is where majority of colleges are running into problems. Security is now becoming another thing to look at when applying to colleges. Small town universities seem to be the target for deadly crimes in the last few years. It seems all to familiar. Angered student gets this powerful idea that a gun will solve your problems. It's almost as if they believe pain is healing.

Dover, De home to a couple of different colleges is a relatively small and quiet town. Until recently it seemed as if Dover had never been much in the news other than their raceway. In August, 2 DSU students were gunned down and murdered left dead in a playground in Newark, NJ. Nearly a month later, more violence has struck, this time on campus. It's all to familiar. Teenagers who had nothing to do with the problem are minding their own business when some deprived man pulls out a gun and fires. Luckily, this time the students survived. The girl however, is still in critical condition. My girlfriends school is roughly 25 minutes from DSU. This morning we awoke to phone calls and text messages asking if the shooting was at her school (The names are similar DSU and UD). We jumped on the computer as fast as we could to make sure there was a lock down. Fortunately for us, it was not UD but rather DSU. The man of course is still at large. My question to you is when are people going to stop this ridiculous violence. These are CHILDREN. They're in an environment in which they can learn and feel freedom. They should not have to deal with being scared to walk around or have the thought that somebody can pull out a weapon on them at any time. What are your thoughts?
